Our current reality is shaking...
I’m sure many of you are feeling all sorts of emotions: anger, helplessness, overwhelm, and instability. Maybe on the opposite end, you’re unsure of how to feel. Perhaps you believe that what ICE is doing is lawful.
I felt called to start blogging at this moment because events like these create chaos, division, and narrow perspectives on what is right and wrong. The Flow State is a wellness and beyond business that encourages and offers services and events for individuals to re-align with their true selves through connection to the body, spirit, mind, and heart. Just because I am spiritual doesn't mean I ignore current events; just because I believe in God and an afterlife doesn't mean I ignore this life. There is a reason we are HERE. I encourage others walking the spiritual path to also care about current political and social issues, especially the ones affecting you, your neighbors, and community members, and where you live.

As an artist, writing has always been my tool for expression and sharing what I care about. In these times, when I feel so much weighing on my heart that it feels suffocating and makes me feel frozen, I hope that by sharing what's in my heart, I can feed my creative spirit and help open others to the truth, encouraging them to take action.
My goal in my blogs is to explore current issues, whether in a broader or personal sense, and their interconnectedness with spirituality. One is not separate from the other, and both are needed to progress toward a better world. Our inner world and outer world are both equally important to observe. The goal is not to be more spiritual, more political, or more "woke." The goal is to continue striving to be better humans.
I must admit that I’ve avoided politics for years...
Due to negative experiences working in campaigns during college, I lost faith in political leaders. It felt like a political game, all for their own agenda to gain power.
I’ve also known that both parties can play a good game, showing us what they want us to see in order to get us riled up, angry, and arguing with one another, creating more chaos before we receive the true facts.
I don’t care much about siding with parties, but I understand the need for it and the balance it provides. What I do care about is how decisions made by people in power impact the people, the environment, the animals, and the land. I care about the community and the safety it is supposed to provide for the people. I care about people and children feeling comfortable going shopping, going to school without being approached, harassed, or unlawfully detained by federal agents with guns in their hands, or citizens exercising their rights to protest, to conceal and carry, and yet being killed for it. I care about people being safe in their homes, without the worry that federal agents will come knocking on their doors or that doors would be busted down. Regardless of how I feel about politics, that’s why being involved in it is important to me. Being informed and doing my part. I am still learning and far from knowing all the ins and outs. But the simplest thing we all can tune into is what is right, what feels safe, and what makes us feel good being part of a community. Also, to understand where our tax dollars are going towards.

I am privileged to not be as affected as others in my community and our broader community. Regardless of whether it is happening to me, people in our community are experiencing this brutality; this injustice. This isn't new, as our black and brown community members have been affected by police brutality for many years. You may see it differently. But at the end of the day, if we are not black or brown, we cannot dismiss their lived experiences. We cannot say something doesn't exist, or this isn't happening when we haven't walked in their shoes. Just because it is not happening to you directly doesn’t mean you should turn a blind eye. Even if it happens to just one person, you should not turn a blind eye. That’s how harm and violence perpetuate. When people see it, but stand by or even enable it, because it isn't affecting them. It is human to feel frozen, helpless, and not sure what to do. This is a normal response when current events are happening. But, I ask for you to keep the people and families affected in your heart. Let's peel back the political-ness, the strong opinions, and self-righteousness. Let's focus on the human aspects. What isn’t okay is justifying the behaviors that are happening, having apathy, and denying our current reality. What isn’t okay is sticking so close to a party and personal and political beliefs that you can’t open your perspective to see the atrocities happening. The people being targeted and affected are not less than; they are human beings. Human beings whom we share the same land with. A land with a painful history.
In the last month, I’ve been studying Jesus’s words closely...
Less from a religious lens and more from a spiritual and moral perspective. I got to really know what Jesus was truly about. If you truly follow him as a Christian, or you study him and are inspired by him, you will know that what is happening right now goes against everything he stood for. Being conservative is not Jesus’s way. Jesus was radical, and he showed it through his sermons and actions. He broke religious laws. He came not to abolish but to accomplish what is moral. He despised following laws, rituals, and traditions that harmed the people. Jesus/God has been used as a symbol to instill fear, to oppress, and control people for centuries. It hurts my heart so much that when he is mentioned, many people turn away, because religion has caused horrendous trauma onto others by using Jesus as justification for abuse and violence. Many cannot receive the teachings that are so vital in these times. It is not that Jesus himself is horrible; it’s the people who came after him, who twisted his words and tarnished his name for their own benefit. In this little sentence, I plead with people to see the truth in that. To Buddhists, many have said Jesus is a bodhisattva, a highly enlightened teacher who helps others on the path to enlightenment. I welcome you to challenge your view about Jesus. You don't have to be a Christian to respect him and his teachings. And if any Christians out there say they follow Jesus, I hope you see him for who he truly is. He said "follow me," not "worship me." He said that if you followed in his footsteps, you'd also come to see the divinity within yourself, your access to your true self. The power within you; to use the light within you to contribute positively to the world.
This is not to clickbait anyone or share any sort of religious agenda by inserting a paragraph about Jesus. I mention it because, in times like these, learning about Jesus's teachings has really helped me to have the will and encouragement to speak up for what is right; to help individuals in our community who are suffering from the impacts of our administration. To shine my light even brighter, by utilizing my own set of skills to help. Being connected spiritually to God means being a good human, an active person who is not silent when injustices are happening. But not just to speak on it, but to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT; to use the power of our words and voice to call out what is unjust when it is necessary, and to not be a bystander when community members' lives are being turned upside down. To get up and take action in whatever way makes sense to you.
This is less about religion and politics and more about humanity...
To have a compass that guides us towards morality. This is about calling out our current administration and how it is carrying out these horrendous raids. The lack of care for people. The lack of care for their own U.S. citizens. I believe there needs to be balance. I believe there needs to be laws around immigration and our borders; ones that are JUST. But this, this ain’t it.

I also speak from a perspective of understanding and a desire to create less division, though I know division will continue in these times. I wonder how many “normal” people, who are just like us, joined Immigration Customs Enforcement, as these types of organizations target people who are low income and in need of financial stability, and their lack of understanding of what they are now ordered to do and how to do it. I also acknowledge there are wackos who join as a way to exercise a power they feel only behind uniform. I'm also sure there are people who join the military or ICE thinking they can protect our country and make a difference. What I’m saying is the system itself is flawed, and the people under it, whether they had good/or not so good intentions won't be guided properly. The administration is allowing and encouraging operations done in a heartless manner.
Anyone who watch these events unfold and still justify them will surely be brought to questioning later on, if not in this lifetime, then when they leave the body. As of November 2025, 73% of people detained had no criminal record, and only 5% had been convicted of a violent crime. Look up the facts. If you say that ICE is justified because they are taking out the "bad guys," think again.
I’m sorry that in these times, our realities are shaken. I wish for us to live in stable times, in peace, harmony, and to experience normal day-to-day things; not the things many of our families have escaped back in the countries we came from, only to now be re-traumatized. I ask that if you do not understand how it feels to escape war, violence, and displacement, I welcome you to expand your perspective and open your heart to understand more.
My spiritual teacher, Grand Master Cho Kuk Sui, the founder of Modern Pranic Healing, likes to use the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi. This was very popular as a prayer for peace in WWI and WWII. I welcome people of all beliefs to use it if it resonates. I believe that this poem can be helpful in these times. You can replace "Lord" with another word that feels more aligned with your belief, such as "Universe," "Higher Power," or "The Spirit/Energy of Love/Peace."
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love
Where is injury, pardon
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy
Oh Divine Master
Grant that I may not so much
seek to be consoled as to console
to be understood as to understand
to be loved, as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
If we choose division now, we will only be feeding into their agenda...

Let’s choose to be on the side of morality. Let’s choose to call out these immoral operations. Let us have a whole, and clear perspective.
I hope that in these times, regardless of what "side," or political party you're on, that you seek to understand. And that we all as people who have the responsibility to care for this planet, and the beings that inhabit it, to be on the side of bettering ourselves and humanity.
With my deepest love,
Cydi
